We have been quite busy here lately with homeschooling. Meaghan's latest adventure was reading her "first" Shakespeare play - Midsummer Night's Dream. Not a "children's" version but the actual writings of Shakespeare. We actually read it out loud together. I would be one character and her the next. A Classics book club I have attended before was reading it for this month, so I thought it would be perfect for us. We read the book and then went to the book discussion. Several ladies at the book discussion didn't like the play very much. I must admit, I was shocked. I liked it. I thought it was so funny and really enjoyed the character -Bottom.
So then a friend told me that Central High School was doing a performance of Midsummer Night's Dream so we had to go. We took my 13 year old sister, Tori(who also had read the play), Nathaniel (who I read a summary to) and Connor.
My family goes to Shakespeare in the Park near my hometown every summer - the kids love it and look forward to it every year! We sit outside, bring grapes, crackers and drinks and enjoy! It is so fun to watch and even more fun to watch the children watching!
With the play, Midsummer Night's Dream, at Central, I really enjoyed it. I laughed so hard. I must say that I believe even more so now that Shakespeare was REALLY meant to be watched. Yes, it is great to read his works but he MUST be viewed! So be sure to go to a Shakespeare in the Park this summer and take the kids!
